Note: This does not impact your current Edgemesh installation in any way. This notice only concerns customers looking to add Edgemesh to new stores after March 1st. If you (or a colleague) are not planning on adding Edgemesh to any new Shopify based stores in the next six months this notice does not apply. All other platforms (WordPress, Cloudflare , BigCommerce and Magento) will continue to operate without any changes.
Effective March 1st, Shopify customers will not be able to add Edgemesh to any new Shopify stores. Any customers who currently have Edgemesh installed on their Shopify store, as well as any new store that adds Edgemesh before March 1st, will continue to enjoy all the benefits of Edgemesh without any changes.
After March 1st - you will not be able to add Edgemesh to any new Shopify storefronts. Existing Edgemesh installations will continue to operate as normal. This only applies to new Shopify based stores that have not created an account on Edgemesh and installed the Edgemesh for Shopify® app.
In addition, if you uninstall the Edgemesh application after March 1st, it is unlikely you will be able to re-add it until a later date (once the Shopify team finalizes their changes).
Shopify is evaluating changes to its Application Proxy interface. The App-Proxy is a critical feature for more advanced applications such as Edgemesh. During the evaluation period, the Shopify team has asked developers to remove dependencies on some of this interface's more complex use cases (which we use).
Unfortunately, during Shopify's evaluation period (which begins on March 1st), Shopify has decided to only grant exceptions to our current customer installations. Anyone without Edgemesh installed on their storefront on March 1st will not be able to add it for some (unknown) time.
We have already reviewed and tested Shopify's proposed updates to the App-proxy. It will have no impact on either your store's speed or Edgemesh ability to accelerate content. We anticipate being able to onboard new storefronts at some point - but we don't know when that will be. We expect the evaluation period will be short. Still, our colleagues at Shopify have asked us to plan for an evaluation period that starts on March 1st and may extend as far as September 1st (approximately six months). In the interim, we will be working with the Shopify team to review ongoing changes to App-Proxy. To reiterate, we can not add any new storefronts starting March 1st and lasting until the end of the evaluation.
If you previously added the Edgemesh App for Shopify and want to simply re-add it, you can use the following API like to enabled the private Shopify app for Edgemesh.
