Our Ethos

A personal note from Jake Loveless

Most companies have an “About Us” page filled with splashy marketing copy and bullet points that say little about who they truly are or what they stand for. While much of our site is crafted by our exceptional marketing team, I felt it was important to share my story and our core values in my voice.

At Edgemesh, we are a team of mathematicians and senior engineers, united by a singular focus: building exceptional products and collaborating with exceptional people. My journey, along with the founding engineering team’s, began on Wall Street, where we honed our craft by developing high-frequency trading systems.

The level of rigor required to capture and analyze data in that environment—where milliseconds mean the difference between success and failure—is the foundation of what we’ve built at Edgemesh. Our approach is rooted in first principles, guided by precision and purpose.

From day one, we’ve taken a different path. We started this company with our own funds and have no institutional investors. This independence allows us to operate without the pressure of short-term revenue goals or external demands to cut corners in how we build and market our products.

This isn’t meant to cast judgment on companies that take a different approach. As our President, Brandon Goldman, often says, “There are many paths to the trophy case.” But our path is unique, and it’s important to me that prospective customers, partners, and employees understand our principles.

What follows is a reflection on how we approach software and business. It might not align with your values or expectations, and that’s okay. But if it does resonate with you, we’d love the opportunity to connect.

Why Most Software Falls Short

The truth is, most software isn’t really software. It’s a patchwork of other people’s tools glued together—managed databases bolted onto analytics products, wrapped in marketing spin. That’s not innovation; it’s assembly.

At Edgemesh, we believe software should be an artifact—something designed to last, like the code written in the 1970s that still runs on your laptop or phone today. Our proprietary database has powered our platform for over a decade, and it will continue to do so for years to come. This is the craft of engineering at its best: building technology that endures.

The Hard Truth About Building Software

Creating real software is hard. It’s not just about writing code; it’s a craft requiring precision, discipline, and experience. On Wall Street, where I spent much of my career, 90% of software isn’t garbage because it can’t be. You don’t sell duct-taped solutions to jet propulsion labs or high-frequency trading desks. Unfortunately, in many other industries, low-cost, low-quality software has become the norm.Sometimes cheap and easy is fine, but when it comes to performance-critical systems, shortcuts aren’t just risky—they’re irresponsible

The Two Types of Software Companies

There are two kinds of software companies:

  • Engineer-Founded: They focus on building high-quality, innovative products but may struggle with marketing.
  • Marketing-Founded: They excel at selling but often deliver poor-quality products because they don’t understand what they’re building.

Most of our competition falls into the second category. It’s not malicious—they just don’t know better. But when you don’t understand software, you don’t realize the damage you’re doing: broken websites, leaked data, and tainted markets.

Edgemesh: Built Differently

At Edgemesh, we don’t take shortcuts. Every line of code we write, every system we deploy, and every solution we deliver is built in-house. We are vertically integrated because we know that depending on 13 vendors for critical components creates fragility, rising costs, and scaling problems.

Here’s what sets us apart:

Do No Harm

Our primary design goal is safety. We ensure dynamic and static content is handled properly to avoid leaking personal data or breaking websites.

Measurement Comes First

If you can’t measure performance, you can’t improve it. Our tools provide real-time insights to track and enhance site speed.

White-Glove Service

We’re not chasing volume. Every customer gets personalized support, starting at $48k/year, with a dedicated expert who knows their site inside and out.

We Build Our Own Stack

From our database to our edge code, messaging layer, and RUM client, everything is ours. This ensures reliability, scalability, and the ability to fix problems immediately when they arise.
